Silverstone – Quick Video

This is a quick video in the Probe on the back straight. (Not very good quality)

Track time at Silverstone

Thanks to one of the UKPOC members (Mojo) at the Ford Fair 2012 I now have some pics of my Probe out on the Grand Prix circuit.

Ford Fair 2012 – Silverstone

Ford Fair 2012 at the Silverstone Circuit

Everyone met just up the road from Silverstone circuit at the Premier Inn at about 7:30 am and by 8am 12 Probes had turned up, then it was a mile and a half down to the circuit in the queue that was starting to get very long. Eventually inside and all the cars were parked up. It was up with the marquee and out with the chairs and a cup of coffee to wake up. The day was brilliant and the weather stayed sunny all day apart from one short shower. There was loads to see and do, thousands of cars, plenty of stalls and auto jumble but nothing for the Probe unfortunately apart from one stall who had a 24v Clutch in a box for £20.

I wanted to get myself out on the circuit as it had been a while since I had raced at Silverstone. So I booked myself a session at a fairly reasonable £35 for about 18 minutes. Once it the pit lane and waiting to get out on the circuit at 12:40 we headed out behind the pace car for a warm up lap. Once the pace car left at the end of the lap we were all left to give our cars a full speed burst. Half way round our first lap, some numpty decided to mash his car up and stop the session. That was it for our session and all the drivers were not happy about it as we couldn’t go out again. So we all demanded our money back and got it. To top it off the people taking photos all around the circuit which allowed all the drivers to purchase a large action shot on the track, screwed that up as well, so no pics of our session.

Apart from that a good day was had by all of the 12 Probe owners that turned up. Everyone left at about 3:15 pm due to the large amount of traffic that would be trying to get out of the circuit.

Transformation is Complete

At last the transformation of my 24v probe is complete with its new body kit and new black respray. It has been a bit of a marathon to say the least with loads of problems & dents underneath the original paintwork, then to top it all the bodykit was also in pretty bad shape too especially the rear bumper which had been hacked about. The US headlight covers were also a pain in the but as the original mounting brackets on them were needed to be be cut about to fit them correctly, but they certainly look better than the normal ones with the infills. Anyway the car is finished for now it looks great!

The Transformation – Day 8 & 9

This is the last pictures that will go up of my Black 24v before Fest. We should be getting the paint on it tomorrow, although the sun roof needs to be changed as the one it has 2 bad dents which we didn’t see until the car was in the sunlight. Lucky I have another one ready to go on.

Almost there now, but I am still panicking it’s not going to be ready in time. Still loads to do. Painting, flatting then polishing. Then there is the Interior and engine bay to be sorted out as they are filthy at the moment.

Keep your fingers crossed.

The Transformation – Day 6 & 7

A bit more progress on the black 24v. It’s been a bit slow due to certain other things going on at the moment, but we are getting there with fingers tightly crossed it’s going to be ready for Fest. The side skirts are now on and moulded into the body work and all the cladding holes in the doors have been welded, filled and smoothed out.

The rear spoiler and US headlamp covers have been dealt with and painted. The rear bumper is now the next bit to handle and it’s not a pretty sight at the moment as it has been hacked about quite badly and we are trying to get the corners the right shape due to that missing bottom part.

The bonnet has been painted, but unfortunately it has a few water bubbles in it so this has now got to be flatted down again and redone. Believe it or not this bonnet was so bad it took almost a litre of paint.

Looking at the car today from the side view it’s definitely going to need lowering a couple of inches, maybe with a set of 30mm springs, but I’m just not going to have the time to get this done before Fest.

Thanks everyone for following the progress of the transformation, it’s appreciated.

The Transformation – Day 4 & 5

Couldn’t get to the body shop last night, but managed to get there this morning after getting back from doing a early drop in Wembley. The front bumper is off, been filled and smoothed. When I left, the bumper was getting some coats of primer.

One of the side skirts is starting to take shape and the body work on both sides, the roof & sunroof is getting a seeing too, removing the horrible dents. The bonnet hopefully gets done on Monday.

Picture (5) I received a short while ago (Pic not too good, was sent from a mobile) Front bumper with paint. More updates on Monday hopefully. The car should be painted Tuesday or Wednesday. So fingers crossed.

The Transformation – Day 3

Well, a bit more done today with the 24v. The body kit has now been offered up to the car to see how it all fits, doesn’t look to bad. Tomorrow, Day 4. The side skirts will be Tiger sealed to the sides after they have all been cleaned up and all the old fixing solution ground off.

I think the front bumper will get a coat of paint tomorrow just to see how it looks. (The 4 spot lights will be removed too) Work has now also started on the very bad bodywork, smoothing out all the dents along the sides. and on the sunroof. The next job will be the bonnet as it has been badly painted before.

This will then be removed, prepared then painted. I am also going to change all the rear lights for the smoked black ones and also fit the American headlamp covers (Pic 7) which will look so much better than having the infills there.

The Transformation – Day 2

Not a lot happening today as I was late back from work and didn’t get a chance to get up and see the car. Wasn’t a problem as the guy had some problems with a compressor and had to get that sorted out to finish off another car he was working on before tackling my one.

But one thing was mentioned is that the 24v cars have side panels that go along the bottom of the doors as well as the front & rears wings. These have to be removed before fitting my side skirts, but when you take the panels off there are holes where the retaining clips were. (See Pic)

Now what the guy has said is, that it would be better to find two 16v doors that are in good condition as the 16v’s do not have these panels. This would save loads of work welding and filling the holes.

I am now going to try and find two doors as quick as I can if it’s possible, hopefully not too far away from me as Fest is getting closer.

The Transformation – Day 1

At 6pm it was time for the black 24v to head off on a 10 mile journey to the body shop. After giving the car a good look over it’s not looking to good for the body work. Lot of dents all over it especially the drivers side rear quarter and door (Picture 4)

The passenger side is also suffering with loads of small dents too and the sunroof needs replacing as well. But anyway, shouldn’t be a problem.

First job was to get rid of the Cobra stripes, then attack one side taking of the bottom panels then offer up the side skirt as they need some work. Tomorrow, the front and rear bumpers come off as do the passenger side bottom panels.

Stay tuned for more updates as the transformation progresses day by day
